Red, Fred, and Weems

Corn Hill Arts Festival Entertainment

Red, Fred & Weems feature “Rockin’ Red” Palmer on harmonica, Fred Vine on acoustic and resonator guitar and Brian Williams on upright bass. This Blues “super trio” of seasoned musicians have impressive resumes and, in their lean acoustic format, can lay down some serious blues, swing and jazz.

Rockin’ Red lived in Chicago during the heyday of the Chicago Blues scene and played with the best of them. He became good friends with “Big Walter” Horton, Jimmy Rogers, Junior Wells, Sonny Terry and John Lee Hooker. Later he published a guide on the “Harmonica Styles of Sonny Terry” that is now considered a classic. Rockin’ Red is one of the most soulful, swingin’ players on the scene today and has tone like no other living blues harmonica player.

Fred Vine is one of the most well-known Blues singers and acoustic guitarists in Upstate NY. He’s a master of Piedmont finger-style and Delta bottleneck slide guitar. In addition to being an outstanding traditional Blues player, Fred performs dazzling arrangements of Jazz, Ragtime and original compositions.

Brian Williams is best-known for his traditional slap bass style blending the rhythms of Blues, Bluegrass, Dixieland, Swing and Jazz. He toured for 10 years with hometown blues legend John Mooney working clubs, festivals and concert halls from Maine to Chicago to New Orleans. Brian is often the ‘first call’ when a bassist with deep traditional roots is desired.
