Gabe CondonGabe Condon began playing guitar at the age of 4. With a few lessons from friends, he learned how to finger his first chords. His group performing at the Corn Hill Arts Festival features his newest project with drummer Jeff Krol, bassist Matt Krol, and trumpeter Joe Kozlowski. Gabe and his band attend the Eastman School of Music. With this project, Gabe is seeking out his artistic voice with a variety of musical influences from James Taylor to Jimi Hendrix to Wes Montgomery. His set will include original compositions and brand new arrangements of popular jazz songs.

In 2007 Gabe was selected by Jeff Tyzik as one of the area’s most talented young musicians, and Performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Pops. In 2008, Gabe received the “Outstanding Blues/Rock Performance” award from Downbeat Magazine for his recordings with his rock band, Mint Jam. That same year he was selected as the guitarist for the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony in Stockton California.

In 2008, Gabe won the Charlie Cote Composition Award for various compositions arranged for guitar and piano duet, big band, and woodwind quartet. Gabe was also the recipient of the 2008 Howard Hansen Composition Contest. His piece, Second Place arranged for string quartet will debut in the Rochester Chamber Society’s 2009-2010 season.

In 2010, he won a Silver Award in the Young Arts Competition and played in New York City and Miami with this group. He also won the “Outstanding Jazz Soloist” award in Downbeat Magazine that May

Gabe has stayed busy during the past year placing as a semifinalist in Lee Ritenour’s Six String Theory Competition in August 2011.
