Blue Jimmy – Bloomfield, NY

Corn Hill Arts Festival Entertainment

Rarely does one find a group that melds so many musical styles effortlessly, crossing genres to create a uniqueness all their own.

“Blue Jimmy is a well-worn roots-rock quintet that shuffles country, folk, rock and pop into a loaded deck of fantastic Americana… Full of lush harmonies and grooves that bop, rock, swing and waltz, Blue Jimmy may be one of the most perfectly balanced, truly Americana bands you’ll hear… It all rests on Blue Jimmy’s beautiful song writing, storied lyrics and clever structure.” (Frank DeBlase, Rochester City Newspaper).

With the release of their fourth album, “South Ave. Sessions” (previous releases: the highly acclaimed self titled album, Blue Jimmy- 2005, The Good Old Days- 2001 and The Two Feet Between Me And You-1998), devoted fans and newcomers of the group can be assured that Blue Jimmy’s focus has remained. Solid musicianship combined with conversational song writing translates into something for everyone to enjoy. This is evident in their live performances as well, as studio recordings are played with vigorous energy and creativity, connecting with the audience on a heightened personal and passionate level. “…It’s truly a testament to a great band that can get those who really can’t dance to get up and shamelessly shake what they got.” (Frank DeBlase, Rochester City Newspaper).

Growing up and still based in the small town of Bloomfield, New York (just southeast of Rochester, New York), the five members of Blue Jimmy are comprised of two sets of brothers and a life long best friend. Brian Ayers (acoustic guitar, harmonica, lead vocals), Chad Ayers (electric guitar, mandolin, harmony vocals), Steve Nelson (drums), Mike Nelson (bass guitar), and Greg Gefell (electric guitar, pedal steel, resonator, harmony vocals). All spent time in the music program at Bloomfield Central, where the seeds of theory were planted and the bricks of friendship laid at a young age. In addition to writing, recording, engineering, mixing and producing their own music, Greg, Chad and Steve all play instruments they made themselves. Steve is president of his own company, which builds custom drum kits. Chad made one of the guitars he plays and Greg plays a pedal steel that he built from scratch. Lending an even more down home and unique sound to the group. It is no wonder that they create their music the same way. Crafting songs from a solid heartfelt foundation, technically sound and artistically free, winning the listener over time and time again.

It is with this twenty-plus year bond in life, musical pursuits and friendship that Blue Jimmy has built a loyal regional following. Landing them supporting act slots and praise from such national touring artists as: Travis Tritt, Billy Currington, Steve Holy, Kenny Rogers, Pure Prairie League and many others. Further accolades include airplay and in-studio performances on many of Rochester, New York’s major radio stations. 92.5 WBEE FM, 96.5 WCMF FM, 98.9 WBZA FM, as well as airplay in Syracuse, New York.

“Playing with fierce modesty and genuine spirit. This is the direction of American music and these guys are on the forefront.” (Popgiant, apple iTunes review.) Blue Jimmy, as well as their music, is as equally comfortable in the rock halls as it is at the honky-tonks or festivals and the members are enjoying steady increases to its loyal base of followers as it continues to promote South Ave. Sessions.
